Upcoming events for December

View this email in your browser

Legionnaires,

I would like to share with you some upcoming events and dates between now and the end of the year.

For football season, the Canteen will be open at 1 PM on Sundays!

Our regular hours are
Wednesday- Friday  4pm-Close
Saturday 3pm-close
Sunday 1pm-Close

First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday with your loved ones!

December 5th:
Our normal meeting will be suspended in order to enjoy each others company with our Annual Legion Family Christmas Party. We will call to order, acknowledge guests, and move right into festivities.

We will provide turkey and ham and if you would like to bring a side dish to share, please do!

This is meant to bring our Auxilary, and SAL together with us to enjoy and celebrate you, the members! We thank you for all you do!

December 6th:
The Town of Huntersville will kick off the holiday season with Christmas in Huntersville on December 6th. This includes a tree lighting ceremony at 6 pm. Alongside the event, we will open the canteen to the public and invite people in to learn about us and our programs.

I would encourage everyone to attend and help with this membership drive to promote the Legion.

December 14th:

The American Legion is now a sponsor of the Army Navy Football game!
We are going combine this event with a USO Supply Drive effort.
The USO at Charlotte Douglas Airport is in dire need.
The USO has consolidated its donations so that all financial donations now feed up to National, to be distributed down to multiple USO’s across the board. While this may benefit less successful USO’s, this hasn’t helped our USO at the airport. The USO has consolidated its donations so that all financial donations now feed up to National and are distributed down to multiple USO’s across the board.

In order to support our local USO, we are starting a supply drive to get the needed supplies to the volunteers in order to stock the USO so they can effectively serve the active duty service members coming through the Charlotte Douglas airport.

Please bring any of the items in the list below and join us for the Army Navy game, sponsored by The American Legion!

I hope to see you at any and all of the events and I look forward to seeing what the new year holds for us!

Semper Fidelis

Veterans Benefits Live!

📣 Upcoming Veteran Benefit Live Events – Don’t Miss Out!

Veterans, mark your calendars for three important Veteran Bridge Live (VBL) events coming up in North Carolina. These events are designed to help you with your Veterans Benefits, whether you need to file a claim, check on an existing claim, or even receive a same-day decision.

First Event:
📅 Thursday, August 22 & Friday, August 23: 8 AM – 3 PM
📅 Saturday, August 24: 8 AM – 2 PM
📍 Location: Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216

What is a VBL?
VBL events offer veterans the opportunity to get real-time assistance with their benefits. It’s crucial to bring any supporting documentation if you’re filing or adding additional evidence to your claim. Contrary to popular belief, there’s no need to arrive at 4:30 AM – they will ensure that every veteran in the queue is seen, so please arrive at a reasonable time.

Upcoming Events:
📍 Cary: September 12-14, 2024
📍 High Point: October 17-19, 2024

Make sure to take advantage of these events to secure the benefits you’ve earned. Spread the word to fellow veterans who might benefit from these services!

Annual Veterans Day Parade

The Town of Huntersville, American Legion Post 321 & Sons of the American Legion Post 321 invite you to save the date for our 8th Annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

This year’s parade theme is “Honoring our Past; Our Veterans of the Forgotten War” with the goal of honoring the veterans who fought in the Korean War.
“A contributing factor to why the Korean War is called the Forgotten War is primarily the overshadowing effects of the preceding World War II and the Vietnam and Cold War’s just around the corner. The Forgotten War was essentially sandwiched between significant conflicts involving more powers”.

If you are a Korean War Veteran or know a living Korean War Veteran that would be interested in sharing your story and/or participating in our parade, we invite you to reach out to
Maria Cepeda at mcepeda@huntersville.org

We want the community to line the streets and thankfully cheer on our parade participants at 10 a.m. and then meet us back at Veterans Park for the 11 a.m. ceremony to honor and remember those who serve and have served.

Awards For:
Best Adult, Best Youth Group, Best Marching Band, Best Performance Group, Most Patriotic, Best Themed Float, Best ROTC Marching Band
